EMERGENCY FUNDS APPEAL FOR MAJOR FLOOD DAMAGE AT AL-IHSAN

Emergency Funds Appeal

What Happened

We’re facing an unprecedented crisis at Al Ihsan. In a heartbreaking turn of events, our facilities have suffered massive damage due to burst sprinkler pipes. Tragically, this disaster has left all of upstairs and downstairs flooded, causing extensive damage.

– Multiple burst sprinkler pipes have led to a major flooding.
– All floors are inundated, affecting every corner of our beloved center.
– Vital resources like books, library materials, desks, and electronics are ruined.
– Structural integrity is compromised, impacting walls, carpets, our wudu area, kitchen, and showers.

What about Insurance?

Our insurance coverage will cover the costs of the cleanup and major structural repairs including pipes and ceiling.

However, any updates we have done to the facility ourselves will not be covered. This includes most walls, carpets, wudu area, washrooms, and more. In addition, our contents are not covered. These include thousands of books in the library, laptops and computers, sound systems, security systems, desks, projectors, merchandise, tables, and more.

The damages we are responsible for are estimated to be between $200,000 and $250,000.

What Has been Impacted

– All onsite programs have been either moved online or suspended, resulting in thousands of dollars in lost fees and in-person donations.

– We are still paying rent of close to $6000 per month even though it may be many months before our facility is usable again.

– We are still paying salaries to all our teachers

– We had multiple community events planned over the coming months which have now all been cancelled

  • FACILITY: The restoration crews have been working rigorously to remove all the damaged property. As of today, they have removed all walls, ceiling panels, pipes, electric wires, carpet, flooring, as well as numerous other damaged assets. The rebuilding of these structural components is scheduled to begin on March 25, 2024.

May 1, 2024

  • FUNDS: Unfortunately, we were not able to reach our goal of $200,000 by the end of Ramadan. However we are inching closer each day. Alhamdulilah we have currently raised about $160,000 of which $20,000 is Qard Hasana.
  • FACILITY: The facility is still closed and our programs continue to be impacted. The next stage of work did not begin on March 25 as the insurance company had stated. Till now, they are still examining bids to approve the contractors for the job. We have been in constant communication with the landlord to assure the work begins as soon as possible.
  • WHAT’S NEXT? We are travelling to different communities across North America to work towards our final target of $250,000.
